License Requirements
At CEI, we provide you with all the necessary tools to successfully apply and prepare for your Roofing Contractor License exams. We’ll walk you through all eligibility requirements, exam structure, as well as the application process.
License Scope
Florida requires a roofing contractor to be licensed through the Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) with oversight of the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB). With this license, roofing contractors can install, maintain, repair, alter, extend, and/or design roofs on all types of buildings, including commercial, residential, condominiums, apartments, industrial, and agricultural buildings of all sizes and heights.
Additionally, a roofing contractor’s scope of work also includes any required roof-deck attachments and repair/replacement of wood roof sheathing or fascia (if necessary) during roof repair or replacement.
Method of Qualification
To obtain your roofing contractor’s license in Florida, you must have 4 years of roofing construction experience, with at least one of those years as a foreman or supervisor. However, college credits can substitute for up to 3 years of required experience, and having a 4-year college degree in ANY field counts as 3 years of experience.
You do not have to have the required experience before taking the exam. You have up to 4 years after passing the exam to gain the necessary experience to become a licensed roofing contractor.
